Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. In 1992, she was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arms control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
